In-stores, in video, in Tennessee & into CarSharing & Indie Abundance™
August is shaping up to be a nonstop month with The Gap Born to Play in-store, a trip to Nashville, kick off of the Indie Abundance: Music, Money & Mindfulness™ tour AND getting the Crooks/Walsh Blues
Ep & artwork off to the manufacturers. Yes, I'm holding onto my hat & saying a lot of thank you's. One of the first goes to City Carshare, whose gracious tour sponsorship is allowing us to get around the Bay Area for shows, rehearsals and lots of logistics. I've been a member of City Carshare for a couple of years now, and can whole-heartedly vouch for the great service it is for those who need a car some of the time
but who can live without the parking, ticket & insurance grief that owning a car in San Francisco can often entail. Better yet, after August 1, Indie Abundance™ fans can get a promo code for a discount on membership AND be eligible to win a free membership. Write me for more info OR buy a raffle ticket to be entered to win a City Carshare membership of your very own at the El Rio show in San Francisco on August 30. More info below....
back to top Gap's Born to Play @ Northridge Mall
On August 20, 2009, every Gap store in the U.S. and Canada will host an exclusive, live acoustic music night to 'celebrate Gap’s 40 years of heritage in jeans and music.' I'll be holding down The Gap store at The Northridge Mall in Salinas. This makes me happy for a couple of different reasons: First, simply to have opportunity to be part of the 'largest-ever simultaneous live acoustic music event,'and second, I LOVE that I got Salinas. As a Californian who was reared in an ag town not so far from Salinas, I grew up reading (and getting influenced by) a lot of Steinbeck,
who was born there. So it feels very apropos — I hope you'lll come on down and/or tune in.

back to top The Crooks/Wash Blues have fledged!
Q Who? What? A: Take two songwriters, a cold winter, a guitar and heartache and you get the Crooks/Walsh Blues.
"Informed by her lifetime of writing, love and loss, Deborah Crooks' lyric-driven and soul-wise music has drawn comparison to Lucinda Williams and Natalie Merchant. Influenced in equal measure by The Beatles, the Beats and the Blues, Alex Walsh
has put his unique stamp on rock, pop and Americana music in four full-length Cds of critically praised original music. After meeting on the San Francisco songwriter circuit, sharing gigs as well as a love of Billie Holiday, Robert Johnson, and Muddy Waters, Deborah and Alex decided to collaborate. The resulting Crooks/Walsh Blues EP contains five originals that stay true to the raw & rootsy aesthetic of the duo’s shared musical heroes while highlighting their own unique blend of California blues." We've been doing a few preview performances around town and will do an "EP Release Show" in September.....

I've been spending a lot of my summer with fellow artists Chantelle Tibbs & Emily Bonn planning the launch of Indie Abundance: Music, Money & Mindfulness™
a run of gigs & workshops to share both our music and what we do 'behind the music.' We're kicking off an inaugural tour that will take us to Oregon and Washington, with a show on August 30 in San Francisco at El Rio. It starts at 1 pm & we'll be playing, BBQing, and giving away a lot of great raffle prizes, including a Daisy Rock Guitar, the aforementioned City Carshare Membership, Indie Abundance™ Tool Kits, T-shirts and more. For information on the great prizes and how to support the tour, follow the links to buy a Raffle Ticket and your chance to win!

My tune "Little Girl' was recently used in a video to promote the work of Operation-Shanti in Mysore, India. I'm pleased with the results and hope you will take a look and find it moves you to help out those in need.
